Happy Feet…

Almost everyone has seen the Happy Feet movie and knows how a penguin walks. Well Juan’s nickname now is Happy Feet or Mumbles. Why you ask? Well, when we were dating, Juan got to a point in the progress of the disease that his normal walk became more like a wobble. One day, I was babysitting my mother’s godson, who was about 6 years old and we were watching the movie as Juan comes in through the main entrance of my house. The movie was at the point where Mumbles starts dancing and the child looked at Juan and looked back at the TV and said: “Look Paulette, Juan is Happy Feet!”. The only thing Juan and I could do was start laughing and hugging the child, because in his own way he had understood what was happening to my then boyfriend. From that day on, whenever Juan feels sick and a bit wobbly, we all say: “Happy Feet coming through!”.

  1. Wonderful story …. I was sent by Terry here .. and I want to stick around. I know very little about Parkinson’s – what I know I have learned from Terry and Julie … their situations. I had my battle, but there is always somebody who has it rougher …. and my thoughts are with you girls.
